Whilst our climate may not seem to be the most need for air conditioning it has not become a standard feature in new cars. However, on hot days most Brits would not want to be without their aircon when in their car - especially when travelling long distances on very hot days. Driving with your windows up creates much less drag and therefore maintains better aerodynamics of your vehicle, which achieves a much better fuel economy performance.
If you notice you're not getting the cooling effect you normally achieve it is likely you will need an aircon regas in Reading. It is a simple process to get booked in and will be done within a couple of hours.

We repair and replace vehicle air con units too
As a general rule of thumb you should expect to need to arrange an air con recharge every one to three years. Clearly this quite a wide timeframe range and it will vary on the amount you drive and the level of air con setting you have on whilst driving. Along with you noticing that the performance of your aircon cooling getting worse you may also notice a slightly unpleasant musty smell from your car. This is another indicator that your air con will need a recharge.

Whilst most people associate aircon with cooling it is just an abbreviated way or saying air conditioning. So having an aircon system changes the condition of the air but an air con unit can act as a heater as well as a cooler. However, it is not the heating or cooling ability which differentiates and air con unit from a heater or a cooler is primarily the removal of moisture. An air con unit comprises of three main components: the condenser, compressor and the evaporator. In a similar fashion to a fridge a refrigerant such as R-134A (or HFC-134a) or R-1234YF (or HFO-1234yf) used in new models is pumped through a high/low pressure loop. The changing in pressure cause the refrigerant to change states from liquid to gas an back again. The changing of states is a chemical reaction (endothermic and exothermic reactions) and this results in heat either being taken from the surrounding area or given, depending on the from to change of state. So just like a fridge where the wiring tubes at the back feel warm, warmth will be generated in another area of the car. For much older models Freon was first used, which is the same as your refrigerator. Within a car the compressor uses power from the engine to compress the gas making it a higher pressure gas which is pumped into the condenser, which cools the gas to form a high-pressure liquid which also creates water as a by product. This liquid it passed to the evaporator, which allows it the space to become low pressure liquid. This chemical reaction draws heat from the inside of the car whilst the other chemical reaction in the compressor create a cold environment which is blown into the inside of the car by fans.
As you may well be aware if you have ever replaced your fridge freezer, this is not an item your local scrap merchant will take. The refrigerant 'Freon' is a harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly and car manufacturers are making more efforts by reducing any negative environmental products used in their vehicles. As a result if your car is less than 3 years old when we carry out a mobile aircon regas near me it will be used a more environmentally friendly gas but this does come at a premium. You car's aircon unit will be designed for one type of gas and you cannot use a different gas in your car. Even if you are happy to pay more in an effort to reduce you impact on the environment - by supplying us with your number plate we will be able to determine which gas to use for your car's aircon regas.
As mentioned earlier, when using the air con in your vehicle the only emission in water so there is no negative environmental impact to using your aircon. In fact in winter months it is an excellent way of keeping the inside moisture away from your windscreen and improving driving visibility.

It's quite simple to have an idea of when your car's air conditioning may need a regas: if you notice that your air conditioning is just not as effective at cooling as normal then a recharge is most likely the reason. Of course, we will check that this is the reason and if so, simply topping up your aircon system with additional recharge of refrigerant should get your air conditioning working back to normal along with any air or pollen filters, which may also need cleaning.
This will depend on your particular vehicle. Older vehicles will be slightly quicker than newer ones which use a different gas. Each vehicle will also have a different size tank for the recharge, so this can also lead to some variations, but around 1 hour is average. Once we have your vehicle details we will be able to provide a better estimate.
In the summer a full recharge of your air conditioning system will allow your vehicle to get much cooler in the hot summer months making driving much more comfortable than driving with your windows down.
